Most are poorly fitted, which is a safety concern, or are not even meant for deliveries: “The boxes used are often for household use, and are rudimentary, which can compromise hygiene. This reduces the quality of the delivered product, which affects the customer experience and negatively impacts on customer retention.”

Upping the game

The bottom line is that the state of the delivery bike sector in South Africa is dismal. Most vehicles are unreliable, unhygienic and downright unsafe for the drivers and other road users.
